About the Journal

The Annals are considered as a platform for the exchange of views on issues crucial to education against the background of scientific research and educational conditions in different countries.

Contemporary trends towards interdisciplinary development of sciences have an influence on the teaching and learning process of biology and nature, and for didactics they mean entering into the issues of the basic objectives of higher education. Hence the need for theoretical and empirical research on the interdisciplinary model of education and didactic solutions affecting: 1/ formal and non-formal education, 2/ new reality, 3/ personality, 4/ activity of citizens of a democratic society, 5/ culture in the global community, 6/ scientific communicators in everyday life, 7/ meta-cognition in continuing education, 8/ competences of graduates of natural sciences and descriptors of educational effects as reference points of qualifications, which in the Framework Structure of Qualifications for the European Education Area are: knowledge and understanding, knowledge how to act, knowledge how to be.

These issues are reflected in subsequent issues of the annals. Individual articles allow scientists, teachers, educators, cultural animators and students to exchange experiences, research results and developed materials; they allow questions to be asked about theories, scientific principles, scope of scientific concepts, ethical and sociological implications of scientific concepts. These are examples of slogans: “Teacher of the digital age”, “Knowledge society”, “e-education”. These studies are always embedded in a social context, which makes them a valuable analysis of the conditions of educational processes.

Volume I of the Annals concerned the transformation of the didactics of biology as a pedagogical sub-discipline and the subject of education in the academic tradition of university natural studies. Volume II addresses the search for paradigms for education and educational models promoting biodiversity. Volume III included articles on ‘health literacy’ – the news and skills that every person should have when it comes to health content. Volume IV focused on comprehensive education in the field of interdisciplinary inclusion of content on sustainable development, in particular environmental protection. Volume V dealt with the animation of natural culture as a way of influencing the process of education, education by culture and for culture, and promoting the sustainable development of the knowledge society.
